Coming Round Again (2009)

I think this is the start of a series that intertwines a sketch of the human figure set amidst a colorful, abstract background. I like the interplay between the distinct sense of line juxtaposed with the free flowing energy of the abstract background. This piece was featured at Amsterdam Whitney Gallery during April 2010.

In late 2009-early 2010 I started on a "Sensual Series" that was to be black and white/grayscale depictions of the incredible beauty of the human body. A study for "Beauty Unaware" morphed into this interest in juxtaposing the human form against an abstract background.

When I was asked to be a part of Ico Gallery's "Rhythmic Figure" exhibit, I melded my interest in Middle Eastern women with my love of the dancing female figure. I used a photo of a belly dancer as the starting point, but then let it flow out in to this composition. It was featured in 2011 at the International Contemporary Masters Exhibit at the Southern Nevada Museum of Fine Art in Las Vegas.
